Credits
Credits are the currency used to issue certificates in Credenza. This page explains how credits work, how to buy more, and how to redeem promo codes.
What Are Credits?
1 credit = 1 certificate issued.
Every time you issue a certificate to a recipient, one credit is deducted from your balance. If your balance reaches zero, you will not be able to issue more certificates until you top up.
Your current credit balance is always visible at the bottom of the sidebar. Clicking it takes you directly to the Credits page at /panel/credits.
Free Monthly Credits
Every account automatically receives a small number of free credits at the start of each month. These credits:
- Are granted automatically, no action needed
- Have a fixed expiry (configured by the platform administrator)
- Are shown in your balance alongside any purchased credits
The Credits page shows when your next free grant is scheduled.
Use it or lose it. Free monthly credits expire at the end of their validity period. If you don't use them before expiry, they are forfeited and cannot be recovered.
The Credits Page
Go to Credits in the sidebar. The page has two tabs:
- Top Up to buy credits and redeem codes
- Usage to see a log of every credit deduction
At the top, a balance card shows your total active credits and the next free credit grant date.
Buying Credits
Step-by-step: Purchase with a Preset Package
- Open Credits from the sidebar
- Under the Top Up tab, find the Preset Packages section. Each card shows the number of credits, validity period, total price, and price per credit
- Click the package card to select it (it highlights with a border)
- Click Purchase
- You are redirected to the payment gateway. Complete payment using your preferred method (bank transfer, virtual account, e-wallet, etc.)
- After payment, you are redirected back to Credenza:
- Success: a confirmation dialog appears and credits are added to your balance immediately
- Failed: a failure dialog appears, no credits are added and you can try again
Step-by-step: Purchase with a Custom Amount
- Open Credits from the sidebar
- Under the Top Up tab, scroll to the Custom Amount section
- Click it to expand, then type in the number of credits you want (between the displayed minimum and maximum)
- As you type, a live discount indicator shows the tier you qualify for. The more credits you buy, the larger the discount and the lower the price per credit
- Review the breakdown: total credits, effective price per credit, total cost, and amount saved
- Click Purchase
- Complete payment at the gateway and return to Credenza
Tiered Discounts
The custom amount option offers volume discounts that increase in tiers. Buying more credits unlocks a higher discount tier, which reduces the price per credit. The discount percentage and savings are displayed in real time as you adjust the amount.
Handling Pending Payments
If you close the browser tab before completing payment, the invoice remains Pending in your purchase history. To finish:
- Scroll down to the Active & Pending history section
- Find the pending invoice row
- Click Check / Pay Now
- If the payment was already completed on the gateway side, credits activate immediately
- If still pending, you are redirected to the invoice URL to complete payment
Invoices expire after 24 hours. Expired invoices cannot be paid. You will need to create a new purchase.
Redeeming a Claim Code
If you have a promotional or claim code (for example, WELCOME2026):
- Open Credits from the sidebar
- Under the Top Up tab, scroll to the Claim a Promo Code section
- Type the code into the Claim Code input field
- Click Redeem
- Credits are added instantly to your balance. A confirmation toast shows the number of credits added and how long they are valid
Things to know about claim codes:
- Codes are not case-sensitive (
welcome2026works the same asWELCOME2026) - Each code has a limited number of total redemptions. Once the limit is reached, the code is no longer usable
- Each issuer (personal account or organisation) can only redeem a given code once
- Claim code credits have their own validity period, which may differ from purchased credits
Using Credits (Issuing Certificates)
Credits are consumed when you issue certificates in a batch. Here is how it works:
- Go to Certificate Generate and prepare your batch (select a template, add recipients)
- When you click Issue, an issue dialog appears showing:
- Your current credit balance
- How many credits the current batch will cost (1 credit per recipient)
- A Top Up link if your balance is insufficient
- You must have enough credits to cover the entire batch. Partial issuance is not supported
- Confirm issuance. Credits are deducted atomically alongside certificate creation
- The deduction appears immediately in the Usage tab
Tip: If you frequently run out of credits, consider buying a larger custom package to take advantage of volume discounts.
Usage Tab
The Usage tab shows a full log of credit deductions, with:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Credits Used | Number deducted (shown as a negative value) |
| Action | What triggered the deduction, e.g. "Issue Certificate" |
| Reference | The certificate or batch ID linked to the deduction |
| Date | When the deduction occurred |
This log is a complete audit trail. Every credit spent is traceable to a specific action and certificate batch.
Credit Expiry
Credits expire. Each top-up or free grant has its own validity period, visible in the history table under the Expires column.
- Active credits are counted in your balance and can be used for issuance
- Expired credits are moved to a collapsible Expired section at the bottom of the history table and are no longer counted in your balance
When credits are consumed, the system uses FIFO (first in, first out) order. Credits expiring soonest are used first. This ensures you get the most value from your purchases.
Organisation Credits
If you are working inside an Organisation, credits are scoped to that organisation, not your personal account:
- Purchases and free grants apply to the active organisation
- Credit balance, usage, and history all reflect the organisation's credits
- Switching organisations switches the credit context
This means each organisation manages its own credit pool independently.
